I guess the seven countries that have free education don’t really exist.

They all just pay absurd taxes. Also the education systems there work nothing like the US. If you want that, you will need complete reform. I can explain in more detail if you would like.

Oh no, the dreaded taxes! I hate the idea of paying the government in exchange for services that benefit everyone in the nation!

What’s adorable is how people seem to think those who support things like this don’t understand it comes from taxes and not that they’d rather our tax dollars go towards something like education or healthcare or infrastructure instead of new and exciting ways to blow up brown people.

Well, I gave you the option to have a mature discussion about something but you clearly don’t want that. Also, when you see half of your paycheck disappear twice a month, I don’t think you will have the same attitude.

haha. I personally dont like government at all lately and im very old school in my thinking. Like Pre WWII thinking of separationism. Stay on our continent and let the world do whatever they want.

the United States is in the bottom third globally as far as effective tax rates go. and I bristle at the notion that “Obamacare” is some crime against humanity. I have acquaintances who were formerly uninsurable because of “pre-existing conditions” who now have insurance and have been able to get treatment for some debilitating conditions.
I’m OK with that.

Absurd?
Germans filing single only pay 47% income tax, and a 5%-10% Property tax every quarter, we all know about the Vehicle and fuel taxes, and the 19% Value Added Tax on most goods and services.
A small price to pay for some kid to go to college for “free”.
/S
(And people are shocked when they find out about rich people hiding money in Panama or other places.. Hell the Isle of Man is just one big Tax shelter. That’s why Jezza had property there. It wasn’t because of the racing it was to protect his earnings from an over-reaching government.)

Why would you pay taxes for things you’ve clearly stated are free?

Yeah that came off a little dickish, I’m sorry.
I’m in the camp that favors taxes. I think it’d be great for taxes to go towards services such as health/safety and education. I’m not okay with tax dollars being used to fund meaningless wars in places we’re not supposed to be.

I’m more than happy to pay more taxes if I knew that my taxes actually went to things I care about, like investing in the education of the next generations, health coverage that doesn’t still cost an arm and a leg to have your missing arm and leg fixed.

Well neither Obama or Bush have great track records on that front.
I just think Bernie’s promises of “free” things is reckless pandering for votes. Do I think universal health care would be great? certainly. The education issue is different. I don’t believe it should be free. There are way too many (I know quite a few) people who received worthless liberal arts degrees and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for them and their best job prospect is a brist at Starbucks. I refuse to have my tax dollars pay for shit ass decisions like that.

That’s more of a pre 20th century way of thinking. The US had an empire long before WWII.
![]() 04/10/2016 at 23:21 |

Germany has a progressive tax rate with 47% being the highest rate paid for the richest individuals in the country. You have to make well over $500k a year to pay that much income tax. The lowest rate is 0%. The highest tax bracket in the US is 39.6%. There’s not that much of a difference in income tax between the US and Germany. Germans also receive much more government assistance than Americans. For one, Germans receive about $9,000/year government allowance, plus the free secondary education. You libertarians have got to be one of the least educated political classes out there.

ah yes correct but we wouldnt have done much if Japan didnt attack us. Its only after WWII we decided to be everywhere
![]() 04/10/2016 at 23:40 |

I don’t think anyone in Canada or Europe would tell you those things are free, if they have more than a 2nd grade education. But then, hopefully Americans don’t legitimately think that, either.

The fact Hawaii was a US territory when Japan attacked it shows the US empire had expanded far beyond its physical borders long before WWII.
